Fireworks Restriction - Harris County Fire Marshall

General News

The following is from the Harris County Fire Marshall website - www.hcfmo.net

Fireworks Restriction
On June 7th 2011, Harris County Commissioners Court approved a restriction on the sale and use of restricted fireworks (skyrockets with sticks and missiles with fins) due to drought conditions. This restriction is effective immediately and will continue as long as drought conditions exist in Harris County. Recent afternoon thunderstorms have had little effect on reducing the drought; the Keetch-Byram drought index (KBDI) has increased to over 700 in the past two days. It is currently at 708 on scale of 0-800. Under a local declaration of disaster by County Judge Ed Emmett, additional restrictions may apply if drought conditions do not improve. The Harris County Fire Marshal's Office will continue to monitor drought conditions and outdoor fire danger.

Vacation Watch - HCSD

General News

Summer time is here and many of you will be away from your homes on vacation for days or weeks. Before you leave please make sure you have timed lights, close your garage doors, turn on the alarm, stop newspaper deliveries or ask a neighbor to pick them up and lock your doors and windows.

Vacation Watch is a service that many residents have used over the years to help lessen concern that their homes may become the target of burglars while they are away on vacation. They do this by providing information to the patrolling deputies so that their homes can receive special attention while they are away. To request a vacation watch a resident must complete a Vacation Watch Request form on which they can enter the information that the patrolling deputies will need to know.

Hurricane Preparedness

General News

Texas hurricane season officially begins today, June 1 and ends November 30.

The 624-mile Texas Gulf coastline, our area in particular, and areas of Texas hundreds of miles inland, are vulnerable to the devastating effects of a hurricane or tropical storms.

The best defense is preparedness and public education about the dangers of the high winds, storm surge, flooding and tornadoes that may occur for hundreds of miles in conjunction with a hurricane or tropical storm.

The Oakwood Glen Association urges all citizens of this community to participate in hurricane preparedness activities, and to pay close attention to watch and warning instructions.
